The Raatejärvi trail is part of Peuran polku, which is waymarked with orange paint marks. There is also a signpost at the trail junction. The round trip from the trailhead to Raatejärvi and back is about 4 kilometres.
The Raatejärvi trail is a lovely day trip close to the road, great for families with children too. You can also stay overnight on the shore of Raatejärvi.
Difficulty
The path is fairly demanding as the terrain is rocky. There are also duckboards along the route.
Starting point
To reach the trailhead, first drive about 8 km from Reisjärvi to Mäntyperä, then turn onto Kuivajärventie. Follow Kuivajärventie for about 6 km to reach the trailhead at the Raatejärvi car park beside the forest road (Kuivajärventie 664). There is a second car park just over a kilometre further on at Kuivajärventie 699.
In winter you can also reach Raatejärvi across the bog on skis or snowshoes.
Facilities
On the shore of Raatejärvi you'll find an open wilderness hut, a reservable hut, an outdoor campfire site, an open sauna, a dry toilet and firewood.
