In Mäntyperä, near Raurantie, stands the Rauran näköalatorni lookout tower. Built on the highest point of Raurankallio, the tower offers spectacular views where you can admire the wilderness or perhaps watch birds through your binoculars. Next to the tower is a large, continuous boulder field – a "pirunpelto", or devil's field.
The name pirunpelto (devil's field) comes from an old belief that "only the devil could make fields like that" and "only the devil himself could plough a devil's field". These boulder fields were formed by the combined effect of moving water and the rising land, as the water washed away the fine soil and left only the large boulders behind.
To reach the Rauran lookout tower, drive about 3.5 km along Mäntyperäntie and then turn onto Raurantie at the junction. Follow the signs to the lookout tower and kota hut, where you can leave your car. Walk about 1 kilometre along the forest road / path until you reach the tower. The address (Raurantie 456, 85900 Reisjärvi) is approximate.
