‹ All outdoor destinations
  • Campfire site
  • Overnight stay possible

  • Sauna

On the shore of Suurijärvi, along the Suurijärvi hiking trail network, there is a cabin with a paid rental hut and a free open wilderness hut. The cabin is intended for short rests and overnight stays by hikers travelling on foot, on skis or otherwise under their own steam. You can also sleep in the storehouse building in the yard if there is room.

Equipment

  • Wood-burning stoves, tables and benches, cupboards and sleeping platforms in the huts
  • A hotplate on top of the stove and the essential cookware (a pot and a frying pan)
  • Wood-heated outdoor sauna, storehouse, woodshed, outdoor toilet, campfire site, jetty and rowing boat
  • No electricity, mattresses or bedding
  • Bring your own drinking water. There is a spring nearby, but its water quality has not been tested.

Rental hut

The rental hut has a main room and a separate sleeping nook with beds for eight. The price is €70 per night (up to 8 people). The hut can be rented for a maximum of two nights at a time. The rental starts at 2 pm on the day of booking and ends at 12 noon the following day. Pets are welcome.

Bookings are made through the Visit Pihtipudas online shop. About six hours before your booking begins, you will receive instructions by email on collecting the key. The hut booking does not include a fishing permit; permits must always be obtained separately.

Getting there

The official starting points for the Suurijärvi hiking trail network are the Yölampi and Jääkolu trailheads. From Nuorasentie it is about 2 km to the hut, but there is no proper parking area along the road.

Please note in winter: Nuorasentie and the roads leading to the trailheads are not regularly ploughed, and the hiking trail itself is not maintained in winter. Mobile phone coverage varies in the area.
