The colours of autumn seem to glow through the morning mist. After a cold night, yellow leaves drift slowly down. The surface of the pond is perfectly still, like a mirror amid all this blaze of colour. The cool, damp air feels good to breathe as you step under the Peuran polku gateway into the old forest.
”I need to get out here every now and then! Living in the city, you really do miss relaxed time out in nature and the chance to properly unwind. The bustle of the city floods your brain with far too many stimuli, but when you come out here you can calmly focus on even the smallest things around you. Like the wonderful call of that black woodpecker that just broke the silence of the forest. And sitting by the fire! You could spend a whole day doing that. You don't always have to go out to complete a particular loop – you can just come here, slow down and enjoy your surroundings.” says Sini, who appears in this video.
The Peuran polku hiking trail from Reisjärvi to Perho can be joined at many different points, so you don't always have to take the same route to get out into nature. The Etelä-Sydänmaa area of Reisjärvi also has circular routes of just the right length for day hikes.
There are plenty of campfire sites, and the area even has a couple of Metsähallitus rental huts for overnight stays. You'll easily find a place to pitch your tent on the shores of the many wilderness ponds and lakes.
